Three months and counting til the College and Career Expo!

On October 10, thousands of high school juniors and seniors will storm the Palmer Events Center in the hopes of meeting a future employer or gaining application insights from a college or technical school representative. It will be the largest event of its kind in the region and the 17th year that Skillpoint Alliance, with presenting sponsor the Austin Chamber, have hosted it.

In the meantime, Skillpoint Alliance needs your help. Since the Expo’s goal is to introduce students to the careers and opportunities available in Central Texas, its success depends on the involvement of our community. Here’s what our fellow Central Texans can do to make this year’s event the best yet:

  • Call local businesses and organizations with the Calling Committee. Our CCE team has set a goal of 90 booths, which means quite a few businesses and organizations. Our Calling Campaign volunteers spend about 8 hours per month hitting the pavement to spread the word to the business community.
  • Help us out on the big day. We need a lot of hands on deck to manage a crowd of 3,500 high school students. Event volunteers may assist with check-in, mock interviews, goodie bags and booth setup.
  • Bring your employer to the Expo. If your business plans on sticking around for the next ten to twenty years, it will need to hire workers who can handle the job. Encouraging high school students to pursue a career in your field and industry is vital to reaching this goal.
  • Be a sponsor. Opportunities are available to sponsor lunch or school buses. Check out our sponsorship opportunities here.
