Skillpoint Alliance Co-Hosts Central Texas Global Game Jam with The University of Texas at Austin

Last weekend, The University of Texas at Austin’s Game Development Program and Skillpoint Alliance co-hosted the Central Texas Global Game Jam (GGJ). The GGJ is the world’s largest game jam event taking place around the world at physical locations. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world, people could come together, be creative, share experiences, and express themselves in a multitude of ways using video games.

The GGJ encouraged people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity.

“It’s always exciting to partner with local game developers and see how they collaborate with the other participants,” said Chelsea Biggerstaff, Digital Media Coordinator at Skillpoint Alliance. “We’re excited to be partnering with The University of Texas at Austin’s Game Development Program to provide their students with the opportunity to use their skills outside of the classroom.”

In addition to the thrill of participating in the GGJ, there was a jury of local industry professionals and UT faculty who judged the games at the end of the weekend. Judges included representatives from Chaotic Moon Studios, Multimedia Games, and The University of Texas at Austin Game Development Program. We were also  lucky to have awesome industry mentors from Maestro Interactive Games and The University of Texas at Austin.

Prizes were awarded for best in show, best use of theme, and best original design. This years winners were; Best in Show – Team Alt Tab, Best Use of Theme –Team Quiet Riot, and Best Original Design – Team Nyan Nyan.
