Skillpoint Hosts Science Thursday at Bob Bullock

Skillpoint Alliance hosted a Science Thursday on April 16th, and gave hundreds of students the opportunity to explore the Bullock Museum, watch demonstrations, and participate in hands-on activities with STEM experts from Central Texas Discover Engineering. Skillpoint and CTDE staff  facilitated entertaining activities for more than 1000 kids, allowing them to interact with elements such as the Van de Graaff  Generator, create boats and speed racers, and test various experiments.

Senior Business Development Director, Lonny Stern, explains how Science Thursdays are a way for companies to get together and excite students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM): “Getting students interested in STEM early on is crucial to meeting the high demand for jobs in our rapidly evolving society, and events such as Science Thursday are examples of how we can turn a seemingly uninteresting subject into a fun experience for students.”

We encourage companies to adopt Science Thursdays as part of their community outreach in order to keep up with the demand of high tech jobs in the future. If you would like to get a person or group involved with STEM, make sure you check out our Discover Engineering program, where we send trained engineers to visit classrooms in the Austin region.
