Velocity: High School STEM Internships

Velocity Programs provide high school students with more than 120 hours of relevant, hands-on work experience with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). By forming a consulting company and working for an actual client on a real world problem, students are exposed to careers in STEM. Students in Velocity work full-time for one month in the summer for a cash stipend.

Student Experience

During the programs, students:

  • Research real-world topics
  • Learn to communicate and work effectively in teams
  • Visit Central Texas companies and other relevant sites
  • Produce a final project proposal and product
  • Present their work in a professional setting

Get Involved

Be a Client

Interested in working with student interns but don’t have the space at your company? Skillpoint’s industry and community partner serves as the Velocity client, “employing” the students as a consulting company to provide over 3,000 hours of work on an issue of importance to the client.

Be a speaker

As they address their problems, students rely on Professionals to come in and speak about their work to help the students in their process of coming up with solutions.

Host a site visit

Students attend at least four site visits throughout their experience in Velocity. Students gain knowledge of careers in the area and get a sense of what it is like to work in different environments.
