Announcing our volunteer opportunities!

As part of a broader effort to raise community awareness in 2013, Skillpoint Alliance has launched new volunteer opportunities for Central Texas community members. We’ve always relied on our community to help us support our graduates and participants and we’re taking it a step further by inviting our fellow citizens to donate their time directly to those deserving folks. First, we’d like to answer a few questions:

  • What would I do as a volunteer? It depends. Every program has in-class and administrative opportunities. Our volunteer team will work with you to determine what your strengths are, how to use this experience to improve your weaknesses and what you would be most happy doing.
  • What if I want to do a combination of tasks, rather than just one? That’s OK, too. Our descriptions are more of a general guideline for what each volunteer would be doing; they’re not set in stone. We would like for each volunteer to have the most rewarding experience possible. If that means custom-building your experience, then we will make it happen.
  • I’m not sure if I can make the times listed in the schedule. Can I still volunteer? It depends. The classroom assistant positions for Gateway and Empower are based on the class schedule, which we can’t move around. All of the other volunteer opportunities can be adjusted to meet your needs.
  • My student needs volunteer hours for school. Would this count? Yes, absolutely. We’ll be more than happy to verify any hours served with appropriate documentation.
  • I have a very specific question. Who do I email? Email Communications Coordinator Rachel Nitschke at rnitschke@skillpointalliance.org.
  • I can’t volunteer at this time, but still want to help. What can I do? Spread the word! Tell your friends, family and coworkers about our organization and make your best pitch for why they should sign up. Word-of-mouth is the best advertising.

Cheers! We hope to see you soon, volunteers!
