Skillpoint Alliance Receives Grant from Texas Capital Bank

AUSTIN — Skillpoint Alliance received a donation this week from Texas Capital Bank that will make a lasting impact on the organization’s capacity to provide skilled workers for the city’s growing construction sector. As part of the bank’s Community Reinvestment Grant program, the grant will support the renovation of training space to be used for a skilled trades classroom.

“While Austin is experiencing great economic prosperity, there is unfortunately a lot of pressure on communities unable to keep up with the affordability of the city. Upward mobility is a key component to ensuring people can continue to stay and live in the community they love,” explained Christopher Rios, Community Development Office at Texas Capital.

“[We are] thrilled with the leadership of Kevin Brackmeyer and the team at Skillpoint for their efforts in helping provide a hand up in our community. Most impressive is Skillpoint’s ability to connect its students immediately to employment opportunities after their certification is complete.”

Skillpoint recently moved to a mixed-use facility where its administrative offices and some classrooms can be co-located, and this donation from Texas Capital will be used to further develop the space to establish a new classroom that can be used for current programs such as HVAC Technician training, or upcoming programs like Advanced Manufacturing, Drywall Installation, or Pre-apprentice Plumbing, among others.

“We are excited about the partnership with Texas Capital. Their support is vital to increasing our training capacity,” stated Kevin Brackmeyer, Skillpoint’s Executive Director.

Skillpoint Alliance is a non-profit workforce development agency focused on rapid skills training in demand occupations, including electricians, nurse aides, HVAC technicians, and many more. Each year, more than 200 local residents from low-income backgrounds receive life-changing training from Skillpoint, enabling them to access sustainable careers in growing industries.
