Skillpoint Alliance adds Samsung Director Jason Maas to its board of directors

AUSTIN, Texas—Skillpoint Alliance, a 501(c)3 workforce development organization that provides in-demand workforce training to vulnerable members of the Central Texas community, has elected Austinite Jason Maas, director of Electrical, Gas and Chemical Facilities at Samsung Austin Semiconductor, to its board of directors. Maas was elected in December of 2021 and will serve a 3-year board term.

In his current role, Maas is responsible for leading multiple teams of engineers and technicians who manage the daily operations, equipment management, infrastructure, installation, safety programs, compliance, environmental stewardship and system reliability for the company’s electrical, gas and chemical facilities.

During his tenure with Samsung he has also led teams within fab, manufacturing and infrastructure engineering areas.

“Maas is an incredible asset to the Skillpoint Alliance board due to not only his years of expertise in manufacturing, but also his dedication and commitment to connecting students and young adults to the manufacturing industry,” Melanie Flowers, Board Chair of Skillpoint Alliance, said. “We are lucky to have his perspective, experience and talent as we continue to grow the organization and programs we offer in Central Texas.”

Maas is also currently an executive advisor for Samsung’s Military Appreciation Group. He is engaged in community involvement through his role on the McNeil High School Engineering Advisory Committee, a board dedicated to directly linking local manufacturing and engineering companies with high school students and programs. Within that role, he offers curriculum advice for school administrators and hosts engineering challenges for students.

Maas’ experience providing curriculum advice makes him a strong asset for Skillpoint Alliance, which offers four fast-track training programs in skilled trades, including pre-apprenticeship electrical, plumbing and HVAC training, and advanced manufacturing.

“Right now, there has never been a greater need for a clear onramp for employment into the starved manufacturing and trades job market,” Maas said. “Skillpoint Alliance is the bridge that connects inexperienced people to potential jobs through skills and job training. Joining the board aligns my commitment to workforce development with Skillpoint Alliance’s mission to provide transformational skills-based training for Central Texans.”

Maas received a degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University before moving to Austin in 1998 to join Samsung.
