The expansion was made possible with the assistance of the Greater San Marcos Partnership, the lead regional economic development organization that represents the City of San Marcos, and the communities within Hays and Caldwell Counties.
The GSMP’s mission is to be a force for positive economic change by attracting and growing quality jobs and investment. The GSMP helped secure the training location for the CPT program, which will be held at Signify’s manufacturing facility in San Marcos. Signify, the world leader in lighting, is committed to providing its employees with opportunities for skill-building, career development and continuous learning. A portion of the CPT program will also take place at Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area’s San Marcos career center.
“There is a critical need for experienced labor in the manufacturing sector in the region, and for programs that focus on rapid workforce development. This expansion will allow us to provide an opportunity for members of the Hays County community to find meaningful careers with great benefits and upward mobility,” Kevin Brackmeyer, CEO of Skillpoint Alliance, said. “We have been planning our expansion into Hays County for quite some time, and we are so thankful to the Greater San Marcos Partnership for playing such an integral role in securing Signify to host our Certified Production Technician class.
”Participants in Skillpoint Alliance programs often return to the workforce after time away, having experienced a previous hardship, or are looking to learn foundational skills that will set them on a new pathway to employment in a short amount of time.
Applicants who successfully enroll in the program will learn about manufacturing safety, quality practices & measurement, manufacturing processes & production, and maintenance awareness. The course includes working with a computer numerical control (CNC) mill machine, soldering station, 3D printer, virtual reality headsets, the Skill Boss and much more. Students will receive their OSHA-10 safety certification and Lean Six Sigma White Belt certification, as well as their HAAS CNC milling certification and forklift training.
Upon graduation, students may find employment as a manufacturing technician, process technician, equipment technician, fab associate, machine operator and/or assembler. Some of the local manufacturing companies that have employed Skillpoint students include: Applied Materials, Global Resale, SISU, NXP, Athena Manufacturing, Samsung Austin Semiconductor, Tesla and many more.
