Skillpoint Alliance welcomes veteran as Permian Basin electrical instructor

MIDLAND, Texas—Skillpoint Alliance, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides fast-paced, no-cost job training in the skilled trades to underserved and under-accessed populations—has hired Army veteran and licensed journeyman electrician Roger Orona as its newest electrical instructor in the Permian Basin, strengthening the organization’s commitment to preparing West Texans for high-demand careers in the skilled trades.

“Roger’s experience makes him an incredible asset to our students and our team,” said Kevin Brackmeyer, CEO of Skillpoint Alliance. “His real-world industry knowledge will help prepare students for successful careers while supporting the growing workforce needs of employers across West Texas.”

Orona brings more than 20 years of electrical experience spanning residential, commercial, industrial and oilfield operations. Throughout his career, he has supervised electrical crews, managed projects and trained workers in the field. He holds a Texas journeyman electrician license and has experience in electrical construction, troubleshooting, motor controls, instrumentation and oilfield electrical systems.

In his new role, Orona will join Skillpoint Alliance’s pre-apprentice electrical training team in the Permian Basin, helping students gain the technical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to enter the workforce and pursue careers in the electrical trade.

“I’ve spent my career working alongside talented electricians across residential, commercial, industrial and oilfield projects, and I’ve seen firsthand how skilled trades can create life-changing opportunities,” Orona said. “There’s a real need for skilled workers in our region, and I’m excited to help train the next generation of electrical professionals in the Permian Basin.”

Prior to joining Skillpoint Alliance, Orona held electrical leadership positions with several West Texas companies, including Texas Electric, R&D Specialties, Charger Energy Services, TDIndustries and JW Powerline. He also served in the U.S. Army, where he earned the rank of sergeant and completed the Primary Leadership Development Course.

The addition of Orona to the Skillpoint Alliance team comes as the organization continues to expand workforce training opportunities in in-demand skilled trades including electrical, plumbing and HVAC throughout the Permian Basin.
