New five-week training course fast-tracks Central Texans into sustainable, high-demand manufacturing careers
AUSTIN, Texas—Skillpoint Alliance—a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides fast-paced, no-cost job training in the skilled trades to underserved and under-accessed populations—announced today the launch of its newly branded Manufacturing Technician program. The course, now five weeks long, is designed to prepare individuals for in-demand careers in the region’s growing manufacturing industry.
In addition to industry certifications, graduates will now receive accreditation for completing the program. The new accreditation will provide graduates the opportunity to transition into further education and training programs.
“By streamlining our Manufacturing Technician program into a five-week course and introducing new accreditation, we’ve been able to make the course even more accessible to prospective students,” Kevin Brackmeyer, CEO of Skillpoint Alliance, said. “The manufacturing industry is booming and it’s critical to offer fast-paced, free training that meets workforce demand. This program not only provides industry standard knowledge, but empowers graduates with the confidence and credentials needed to thrive in the high-demand industry.”
The revamped program–formally six weeks long–covers key topics such as manufacturing safety, quality practices and measurement, manufacturing processes and production and maintenance awareness. The course includes hands-on work with soldering, 3-D printers and HAAS CNC Milling, among others. Graduates will leave the course with the OSHA-10 safety certification, HAAS Basic Mill and Lean Six Sigma White Belt certifications. The manufacturing technician program is offered in Austin, New Braunfels and Seguin.
The course also aims to improve soft skills like income management, resume writing and interviewing skills in order to create a well-rounded student and optimal employee. Additionally, the course provides opportunities for students to engage with local employers through site tours and class presentations.
Graduates of the program typically go on to work for leading manufacturers in the Austin area and beyond, including Samsung Austin Semiconductor, Tesla, Flex, Tekscend Photomask, Applied Materials, and NXP.
