Skillpoint Alliance receives $8,000 from CenterPoint Energy Foundation

Austin, Texas—Skillpoint Alliance—a Central Texas 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides fast-paced, no-cost job training in the skilled trades to lower-income, underserved and under-accessed populations—announced today that the organization has received a grant from CenterPoint Energy Foundation.

“The funding provided by CenterPoint Energy Foundation will support Skillpoint Alliance’s mission to help low-income community members attain financial independence through upskilling and free workforce development training,” Kevin Brackmeyer, CEO of Skillpoint Alliance, said. “Students will receive industry-recognized credentials, technical and soft-skills training, job readiness training, and individualized support as they search for and secure meaningful employment in high-growth occupations.”

The $8,000 grant from CenterPoint Energy Foundation will support Skillpoint Alliance’s programs and assist in the recruitment and enrollment of low-income residents in Centerpoint Energy’s service areas, including Hays, Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Bastrop Counties.

“The CenterPoint Energy Foundation is proud to support programs that expand access to workforce development and training opportunities,” June Deadrick, CenterPoint Energy vice president for community relations, said. “Through our investment in Skillpoint Alliance’s training programs, we hope to empower more Central Texans to pursue rewarding careers and strengthen our communities.”

The CenterPoint Energy Foundation strives to be a catalyst in the communities it serves by leveraging everyday opportunities and resources to increase the vibrancy of these communities. Grants are awarded to eligible nonprofit organizations with programs that support community vitality and education in CenterPoint Energy’s footprint.

Throughout each program, students will meet with potential employers, attend employer site visits, prepare resumes and cover letters, and participate in mock interviews. Upon completing the program, Skillpoint Alliance will leverage its vast network of employer partners to help graduates secure employment.
